RESCUE GALLERY

Welcome to the Westie Rescue Gallery. This page details some of the rescue work undertaken within the scheme since the Summer Fayre in 2004. As with any rehoming gallery, there could have been a temptation to rush and place 100's of pictures online of 'rescued' westies, which although would have been 'nice', we believe this would only have served to detract from our overall message concerning the determined, focused and thoroughly hard work all our volunteers, fosterers, helpers, transport providers and carers undertake on behalf of Westie Rescue. Whilst the pictures in this section are not representative of all the many Westies that come into our organisation, they still provide graphic examples of the condition of which some Westies are still received into the scheme all too frequently (in our opinion) today. We believe the pictures themselves tell of the individual Westies plight and along with the summary information provided, we hope they give a clear indication as to the continuous and tireless effort that goes into making each one of these Westies healthy, happy and eventually rehomed! |
Suffice to say that many of the Westies on this page suffered from a regular problem that can affect many Westies at one stage or another in their life. The Westie skin is prone to complaint and irritation sometimes leading to infection, however, if detected early, the problem can be solved relatively easily for instance sometimes through alteration to diet or providing dietary supplements. As you will see in the cases highlighted below, these particular instances had progressed much further beyond this initial detection / prevention stage.
If you would like to help us in our efforts, please visit the sponsorship section where you can find details of some of the Westies requiring urgent and intensive treatment and care before they are fit and healthy enough to be re-homed. It can sometimes take months and much, much longer before a Westie receiving this level of intensive treatment can be re-homed and it is this level of care which is extremely costly. Whilst undergoing treatment, a Westie in our care will be placed in a foster home receiving 24hr attention in a family orientated environment. It is this type and level of care that these Westies receive during this stage in Westie Rescue, that we need most help from our supporters in obtaining funds in order that this necessary work can continue.
Our sponsorship scheme is designed as such so you can provide funding for those Westies how have joined the scheme with often life long illness, and chronic conditions. Every penny received through this scheme will go directly to helping these westies who are most in need of your money.
If you would like to join the Westie Rescue Scheme, or help in any other way please contact us on 0870 170 9526 or alternatively download the appropriate joining form from the downloads section. We are always looking for volunteers to help with transportation, home checks, fostering or fundraising - even if you can only offer information or advice it will be gratefully received.
As a further site enhancement - you will soon be able to donate money direct to the Westie Rescue Scheme online - more news on this exciting development will appear here shortly.
PLEASE REMEMBER - THESE IMAGES REFLECT THE EXCEPTION OF DOGS RECEIVED INTO THE WESTIE RESCUE SCHEME.
